What are you wearing?

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.. ”  Ephesians 4:22-24

There are so many fashion fads out there! There are new exciting trends and then there are trends that have recurred.  It’s really hard to keep up.  But, when you really think about…do these trends make us? Should it make us? It shouldn’t but it does in most cases. When you find your own personal style and commit to it, your confidence then exudes outwardly then inwardly.  I try not to get so caught up in my closet these days but I find myself finding a reason to buy something new.  Over the years, I have definitely become conscious in spending now but sometimes I want something new.  So, to make a happy medium, I donate, give away or even get rid of “old” clothes to get “new” ones…..Fair trade-off?

Same goes for our spirit man.  When we become “new” in Christ, we are commanded to take off or put off some old stuff.  What are you wearing? Is it pride? Arrogance? Doubt? Or is it the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control? In Ephesians 4, Paul is telling us, with diligence, we must make a conscious effort to put off carnality and put on righteousness and holiness.  How can we do this? By renewing our minds daily (Romans 12:1-2), denying our flesh, reading, (studying and applying) the Word of God and the other spiritual disciplines, and joining a bible believing church.  If you find yourself, wearing something old, take off! Put on the new garment that God has given freely!
